Capstrat senior vice president and group director Liz Hamner is among an elite group of professionals who will receive the Triangle Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Leadership Award for 2013. Hamner started as an intern at Capstrat in 2003 and quickly demonstrated her capabilities with several of the agency’s largest clients. She earned the confidence of colleagues and clients alike and has risen steadily through the ranks to group executive.

Hamner has developed a reputation as an up-and-coming star in the marketing communications landscape, as well as in the Raleigh business community. She has participated in Lumin Collaborative and young leaders training programs. She also serves as communications and marketing co-chair of the Leadership Raleigh Alumni Association. At Capstrat, Hamner works with national and global clients, such as Deloitte and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In addition to providing strategic communications and marketing counsel, she oversees the agency’s professional services practice.

Ken Eudy, Capstrat CEO, has this to say about Liz: “Liz Hamner is the quintessential Capstrat success story. She started out as a college intern and worked her way to group director. She oversees the relationships with two of our key clients. She’s like a juggling ventriloquist – she handles a lot of work without looking as if she’s exerting extreme effort.”

Liz has used her talents to lead communications programs that benefit the Triangle and the state. Thanks in part to Liz’s efforts, NC GreenPower has become a recognized brand in alternative energy. She was also instrumental in the communication efforts leading up to the launch of the new Raleigh Convention Center. Liz is a trusted mentor to high school and college students through her involvement with groups such as DECA and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where she serves as a board member and co-chair of student events for the School’s alumni group, the Journalism Alumni and Friends Association.

Liz loves being active in the community. With the Junior League of Raleigh, she serves with Capital Campaign and was PR Chair for the 2013 Inaugural Ball. She is also a founding member of Grab My Wheel– a nonprofit organization raising money to support people battling cancer. Since its founding in 2006, Grab My Wheel has raised more than $300,000 for Rex Hospital’s Angel Fund and the Livestrong Foundation, primarily through its annual le Tour de Femme fundraising event.

Angela Connor, last year’s 40 Under 40 recipient, sat with Liz to get her thoughts on receiving the award. Watch here.

Hamner will be honored at the 40 Under 40 Leadership Awards Gala on May 16 at Durham Convention Center. Visit http://www.bizjournals.com for more information.
